“Want Ad”

My fingers and toes are always cold. I have a teardrop
birthmark on my right thigh. I fall asleep with the TV on.
Sappy commercials make me cry. I want my lipstick
to match my clothes. Did you know
in the Dark Ages, women who wore it were seen
as deceitful? Convicted of witchcraft, so seductive
they were evil. Red lipstick, black magic.
Cherry is my favorite shade. I like to drive at night,
sunroof down, so I can see the stars when I stop
at a light. I want to see the world but I’m afraid
to fly. I kill my own bugs. I’ve seen people die
of regret. It’s not a pretty way to go, it’s a slow
poison. I’m a little superstitious and a bit OCD.
I want to check the locks three or four
times before I can sleep. Coffee is my drug of choice.
We could drink some, take a sip from the Fountain
of Youth. I’ve never been good at keeping time,
so please don’t flip the hourglass as I look away.
If I could afford to, I’d spend my days in café’s,
eavesdropping. But curiosity killed the cat,
even with its nine lives. Stranger,
please, don’t waste mine.
